Where to Stay: Hamburg

Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall

Walking into Sofitel Hamburg, we were immeadiatly struck by the gorgeous scent that welcomed us into the lobby; the deliciously sweet aroma really set the tone for our stay, subtle yet beautiful, with a hint of a fairytale about it. This fairytale-like theme is continued in the decoration of the lobby, inclusive of an artificial tree whose branches are hung with pastel coloured, teasingly real looking cakes. These unique little touches are what so enchanted us and ensures we will choose a Sofitel again for another city break. We chose a Luxury Double room for our stay and loved the modern, spacious style complete with amenities such as a Bose music system and Nespresso machine.

The bathroom was also lovely, inclusive of a rain shower and bath, but it has to be the bed that was the high point of this room. Sofitel are all about a good nights sleep, therefore every one of their hotels use the MyBed brand, exclusively designed for chain. It has to be the comfiest bed we have ever slept in, everything from the mattress to pillows was the ideal soft but firm combination, molding perfectly around the body and guaranteeing the most wonderful sleep. And should you want a Sofitel style sleep every night, you can even purchase all the MyBed products for your own home, available at http://eu.soboutique.com/en/.

Sofitel is also top of our list in the breakfast category. It has our ideal combination of hot beverage table service with a food buffet, set in a peaceful spacious dining room adjacent to the lobby. The choice of food was immense, with both traditional German fare to foods from around the world, and presentation was extremely neat. While we didn’t eat in the hotel, we did enjoy a cocktail in the bar and with it’s bright green design and position overlooking the canal, its great for a drinks day or night.

Arguably the most attractive feature of the hotel is its indoor spa. Unfortunately during our stay it was closed for maintenance but we hope to stay again soon and experience what looks like the perfect way to relax on a city break. Finally, we must mention the excellent staff at the hotel; each and every member we encountered was warm and welcoming but the Concierge was particularly helpful, advising us on everything from transport to nightlife.

With a central location (just yards from a metro station) and a luxury interior, we highly recommend Sofitel Hamburg for a city break where we guarantee you’ll have a peaceful, relaxing stay.
